Making Ice-Cream

In team 12 with our Friday teacher Mrs Demchy we made ice cream.  Mrs D did a brain storm on the white board to show us what we had to do.  We had to do a TV ad with a catchy jingle, design the lid, think about what we were going to put into the ice cream and a few more thing.  My ice cream group name was Splat and the company name was Millions.  Some of the extras my group put into the ice cream were skittles, food colouring and chocolate.  The hardest part was making the ice cream and especially trying to make the cream into a light yellow colour  and not turning it into butter.  When I had a big mouth .  On the Monday we took the ice cream out of the freezer and tasted our creation. it tasted sickening.  I would love to make ice cream again but I would just make vanilla.

Weeks Words Reflection

A few students in team 12 have been using weeks words for their spelling testing at the end of the week.  I like using weeks words because you don't have to go up to the teacher to get tested and I also like how you can record your own voice so you can understand the word better.  To tell you guys what we did and what we enjoy about this app we did a fotobabble.  This week I got all my words right.  This app is on team 12's ipad and ipods.

Thursday Experiments

One of our experiments Rm 12 did on Thursday with Mrs Demchy was trying to blow up a balloon using CO2 gas made by baking soda and vinegar.  First of all we got a balloon and a bottle with a small neck so we could put the neck of the balloon around it.  We filled the balloon with baking soda and had the vinegar in the bottle.   Next we went outside and put it together.  It only blew up a little bit but then Mrs Demchy tipped the vinegar into the balloon and it expanded to a full sized balloon.  Most people got to touch it and see how firm or soft it was.  We weren't aloud to squeeze it to much just in case it popped.  We went inside and talked about it.  This experiment was one of 3 successful experiments.

Algebra

For maths we are doing algebra.  Today for algebra we had a problem solving activity involving a shortage of tent pegs.  Here is the problem.
The youth group are having a camp. they needed to put up tents for each team. Usually it takes eight large pegs to hold up each of their tents. This time they have a problem. They are very short on large tent pegs.

Leader: "Find some ways to put up tents that will save pegs" (Talking to the groups).

We had to work with a classmate to find a least three ways to put up ten tents.  Then we had to find out which of the ways used the least amount of pegs.

Katie and Emily made a way that only used 39 pegs but then I came and looked at our layout and suggested that we could take some pegs away and join them to others.  Our second layout came to 36 pegs. The white bits of paper is the tents and the green counters are the pegs.  We had the least amount of pegs in the end and some people got up to 60 pegs altogether.

"Stuck in a Pond" (Brooke)

“Alisa, Can you go and get some eggs with Jessica please”.  Jessica was my best friend.  She was staying with us because her parents had to work.

Together we walked to the chicken coop.  By the coop there is a pond.  I thought I saw a frog in the water.  I looked very close and I fell in.  Jessica quickly pulled her camera out and took a picture.  She then pulled me out of the sludgy pond.  We got the eggs, dashed to the house, handed the eggs to mum and I went to the shower. “Long story” Said Jessica.

Gym Sport

For the rest of the children in the senior syndicate that weren't doing kapa haka could choose a group to be as part of.  They were cheer leading, aerobics and hip hop. I was in hip hop.  There was so many kids that wanted to be in hip hop there had to be two teams.  Miss Workman's team and Whaea Tamara's team.  I was in Miss Workman's team.  Our team entered the competition.  Whaea Tamara's team had just had two practices and finished the routine.  Sadly they were too late to enter.  The team I was in competed and came first.  A few days after Mr. Chell told us to write a recount about the day.  I asked him if I could do a haiku about my experience. If you didn't know a haiku has 5 syllables  in the first and last line and 7 syllables in the middle.

Training once a week
Training twice or maybe more
Going through the dance

To get it perfect
The day has finally come
Nearly time to show

Going to the floor
Getting in start positions
Trying to smile

As quick as the start
It ended within a flash
Waiting for results

Hip hop first place is...
Fluro mob from Vardon school
Most kids are happy

Going back to school
Telling people we came first place
So proud and happy

My Name Art

In room12 we make class signatures to say that we are part of room 12.  As you can see on my picture we have to write our name clearly so people can read it.  In the spaces we had to draw a picture  of a place or a hobby and it had to be a plain coloured background.
Behind a letter it had to be a pattern or some sort of design.  The letter had to be decorated in some way to make it creative.  As you can see for my decoration I have done bubbles, trees, pencils ect.

Here is a photo of me and my name art.  I hope you like my name art.  :)

2013 so far...

2013 is a new year and I'm back at school as a year 6 but I am still in room 12 with Mrs Parkinson as my teacher.  This year has started well back at school meeting all my friends and doing art work for the class wall and for some books.

My most favourite thing so far was making two truths and one false.  We had to think of two truths and one false without trying to make it noticeable.  Here are mine.

I love to dance
I want to go to Paris
I have never been to a rugby game

Can you see the false?
